Security Systems in Bath, Maine

Cunningham Security designs and services security systems for Bath homes, shops, offices and other commercial properties. We help you protect the entrances that matter, see useful activity on camera and manage access without adding needless complexity. In an existing building, we also consider how the installation will fit the structure and what equipment can be retained. Whether you are improving a family home or taking over a business location, the starting point is your routine and the spaces you need to secure.

Protect the finishes while sorting out access

Bath’s downtown and legacy buildings make installation routes part of the design discussion. If your building has plaster walls, masonry or detailed woodwork, survey existing cable paths and test proposed radio locations before committing to equipment. The September 5, 2025 ADU Boost announcement covering Bath also highlights a useful planning question for owners considering an accessory dwelling: which entrances, outdoor views and user permissions belong to each household? Shared parking does not mean shared credentials. Agree on those boundaries and the owner’s equipment responsibilities before installing cameras or changing locks.

2020–2024 ACS estimates indicate that about 66% of Bath’s housing units were built before 1960. If your home retains plaster, masonry or finished trim, plan cable routes around those surfaces and verify any proposed wireless locations. Age is a reason to inspect the construction, not proof of a system limitation.

Separate the shop from the rest of the property

A storefront with rooms above or behind it may have several entrances and different occupancy schedules. Identify which doors serve customers, residents, staff or shared areas. We can evaluate separate alarm areas and controlled access so one group does not need unrestricted entry everywhere. Clear user permissions also help when an employee leaves or a contractor’s work ends. For a single-family home, the same planning process clarifies garage access, guest codes and how protection operates while people are inside.

Ask video to answer a specific question

At a downtown business, a camera at the front door and a view of a rear delivery entrance serve different goals. Views toward windows, passing traffic or shared walkways need careful adjustment. We can review nighttime lighting and where equipment can be mounted without an awkward installation. Discuss who will look at recordings and how long you need them retained. For owners who want active attention to selected activity, video monitoring is a separate conversation from basic recording.

Modernize the parts that limit you

If the present system is difficult to use, first identify the limitation: unreliable devices, outdated communication, missing smartphone access or confusing user administration. A survey can establish whether usable wiring and contacts can stay while controls are updated. We also review monitoring contacts and demonstrate everyday operation to the people who will use the system. For a home left unoccupied during travel, water and low-temperature alerts may deserve as much attention as burglary protection. Equipment choices should reflect the building and the way you will respond.

Plan the local review and bring the right information

Use Code Enforcement to check the scope of a wider renovation or exterior alteration before specifying cable penetrations and controlled entrances. Submit photos of the existing door and wall, proposed device positions and a drawing of shared access. For an exit-hardware question, involve Fire & Rescue as well. The municipal pages reviewed September 27, 2026 provide these planning routes; they do not establish that every security upgrade needs the same approvals.

Questions about your Bath property

Can an alarm be installed without covering an older interior in visible wiring?

We assess concealed routes and suitable wireless options before recommending a layout. The proposal should explain where equipment will be visible and what access the installation needs.

Can a shop and an upstairs residence have different security access?

Potentially, yes. We need to review the shared entrances and system arrangement so each occupant has appropriate control while common areas and exit operation remain properly addressed.
